Steeped in centuries of history, Château du Baffy has been an enduring part of the Normandy landscape for almost three hundred years. Originally built around 1735 on the site of a watermill powered by the River Seulles, the château evolved over time, with elegant additions made during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Although the original mill was dismantled in 1840, traces of its foundations remain, offering a fascinating glimpse into the estate’s earliest origins.
Like much of Normandy, the château witnessed the extraordinary events of the Second World War. During the German occupation, the Vignerol family, who owned the estate, courageously remained in residence even after German forces established the château as their headquarters. Following the Allied landings in June 1944, the area around Colombiers-sur-Seulles was liberated, and as German troops retreated from the château and surrounding grounds, local residents welcomed the liberating Allied soldiers in scenes of great celebration and relief.
In the 1960s, Château du Baffy began a new chapter when it was transformed into a hotel, welcoming guests from around the world to experience its unique combination of French heritage, elegant surroundings and remarkable history. Today, the château continues to offer an unforgettable stay, where every room and every corner reflects centuries of stories waiting to be discovered.
